Poem: Theory on Giving Myself Away

December 14, 2016

I swallowed an entire city
and everything became a shade of blue

When I think of eating
I see your mouth making a mess of mine

my face is made of watercolor and now
I am spreading this time instead of running

When I am certain of tomorrow's
ballet pressing me out into its soft heat

I lie with pointed toes inside my bed,
my calf stretching its ripe fruit down

(skin broken
and
cleaned)
the table awaits you

To lie still for a man as he devours you
means you've grown outside of him

and the both of you know it

To lie still for a man who does not show,
That's grieving

Neither of you know this.
